"Zhejiang-Fighting death" is my first BL(boys love) fanfic. This work is based on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which started in early 2020 in China but worsened after new viruses emerged in Brazil and India.

After the completion of Yomitan, this new fanfic will simulate the effects of a similar virus in a couple of 'empires'. All the characters are from Chinese dramas that I like. I'll introduce them to you below. 

Unlike Yomitan, "Zhejiang: Fighting death" will be written in English from scratch (Yomitan was written in Portuguese, my native language, and translated to English over time), there may have some grammar mistakes in it, and my English is far from perfect, especially using past tenses. All the grammar mistakes will be ironed out as my knowledge of this language improves. A translation toolbar is available in the left corner. You should not rely entirely on it, even though I'll try to keep my English as plain as possible. I choose to write it only in English because it is the lingua franca of the internet. The translation from English to Portuguese worked correctly 90% of the time. 

This fanfic is BL and sometimes gets way too "hot". The relationship system is very open and most characters will eventually reach the highest levels of intimacy with each other. Words, like the 'd-word', will be suppressed. You may have to "think out of the box" at some times to understand what I meant. Using vulgar words like d*CK, and f*CK, among others, would make it simpler, although less enjoyable.

Another consideration: this fanfic is built on a non-linear process like Yomitan was, but the latter was almost complete when uploaded to blogger. This one is being written 'on the go'. You can expect some chapters to become longer over time and even new characters come in. I suggest you consider the latest three chapters as drafts. 

Why "Zhejiang"?

Zhejiang, as some may have noticed, is a province in southeast China. I have a list of points of interest in this particular province I want to visit. I am a Taiwanese supporter, something that would probably piss off the communist party of China, from whom I don't have any respect. I don't care about the communist party's feelings. I mind about China's rich culture! They tried to destroy it in the past(see the cultural revolution). The party regretted it later, but China is still a dictatorship, and it bothers me. My original plan was to set the fanfic in Taiwan, but later, I chose China due to the larger area and the variety of terrain not found in Taiwan. 

How many characters?

Well, I'll try to keep the character count low to make things simpler. I'm not expecting this to get nearly as big as Yomitan was. Even though there is a lot of potential storytelling from such a worldwide disturbance created by the ongoing pandemic, so don't be surprised if it reaches a hundred chapters. Most chapters will be short, so it is going to be easy to read. 

I'll briefly introduce the characters below. This list may get updated as new characters performing important roles are included. Of course, this fanfic has an ending( the epidemic being eradicated). I don't know how many chapters there will be or how many new characters I'll need. Some minor characters may not show up here:

1- 封龙 - Feng Long - Emperor of Zhejiang

Feng Long is the most important of all and comes from the drama "The Story of the Bat (夜燕白)". The animals, bats, were thought to be the first carriers of the sars-ncov-2. Evidence shows that the virus somehow evolved and was then able to infect human cells, just a fact not relevant to my fanfic.

Feng Long is so captivating to my eyes, handsome even, and this fanfic is the final product of it. I decided to include other characters that I love( and hate in some cases), or at least some of them.

Feng Long will be the emperor of Zhejiang. As with all other emperors, everything currently happening in the empire is ultimately his fault or virtue. Emperors have a lot of responsibility and need to make decisions very carefully. They are the ones who pay' or get 'rewarded'. I modified the concept of 'emperor' a little bit. In reality, the emperor was never held accountable for anything. Only the dowager empress was more powerful than him, powerful enough to punish him. But let's forget about this complexity and think on more mundane terms: He's like, you know, your president or prime minister. Also, this story is BL, and my cast is all-male, so the empress dowager does not exist.

Feng Long is hot, sweet and a bit rough too when he's under the weather. His leadership is good, his fighting skills are excellent, and his general knowledge is also good. However, he has problems dealing with complex issues as his heart is not as tough. He needs a constant amount of support from other people who assess him on his daily affairs. He has a beautiful and rich love relationship with Yu Lexuan and is really committed to him. Even though he occasionally has some love affairs with others, he's remarkably consistent and tries to love everyone in roughly the same manner, Yu Lexuan being the outliner here.

2 - 雨乐暄 - Yu Lexuan - Prince of Zhejiang

 Yu Lexuan is from "In a class of her own(漂亮书生)". Strangely to the imperial stack you'd expect, I removed the presence of "kings" in some empires: there's only the emperor and a prince, that also serves as a representative of the emperor. Anhui is the only empire that has kings, who ruled together in smaller subdivisions and are loyal to the emperor. 

Besides being exceedingly handsome, Yu Lexuan is very playful, incredibly hot when teased, and has a top-notch skillset and fighting abilities. He's also very tender and moderate, so to be that loving person Feng Long needs, even in matters that can only be solved over the mattress, well, as I said before, not only him as the emperor have multiple partners, but especially him. He loves Feng Long deeply but may make strong love ties with others. 

Yu Lexuan will play a vital role in preventing Feng Long from running out of whack. He will face difficult scenarios when the epidemic really hits as there are no easy decisions to be made, and Yu Lexuan will try persuading Feng Long to make better decisions. Despite Feng Long being very open regarding his rule, Yu Lexuan has a stronger influence over him compared to others.

He has basic knowledge in science, well, at least science back them, but not as much as Zhang Yi. I'll include some pieces that may not be historically accurate, but I don't really care, this is fanfic for God's sake, so be kind if you find information that shouldn't have been known back then, it fills the gaps, and keeps the story flowing.

3 - 张仪 - Zhang Yi - Minister of Health - Zhejiang. 

Zhang Yi is from "Song of Phoenix (思美人)", one of the earliest Chinese dramas I've watched after "Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms". In the drama, he's the strategist of the Qing state, which destroyed and conquered many other states using his "horizontal alliance strategy". This is historically accurate, but here, he will perform another role. He may not look as hot as the others but his unique temper is what really made him stand out among other options. 

Being the Health minister, Zhang Yi has large expertise in fighting diseases. He has some notable achievements in getting the empire protected from all sorts of plagues that developed in neighbouring empires. His "test, lock, and trace strategy" is proven to work so well that even dangerous and highly infectious diseases were kept outside of the empire's borders, well, until now.

Zhang Yi will face many demands from the emperor. Zhang Yi usually has a cold, sad, and depressed mood, but this is something he usually does not show close to others. When teased, he changes completely, and turns into a fiery character in the love business, almost as fiery as Feng Long. He has close ties with Yu Lexuan.

4 - 仲堃仪 - Zhong Kunyi - Minister of Economy - Zhejiang

Zhong Kunyi is from "Men with sword (刺客列传)", and his primary job in this BL series was actually being the agricultural minister of Tianshu. Here, he was granted a "ministry of the economy" or "ministry of finance" position, whatever, he's gonna be in charge of the money. 

His mathematical mindset is very good when dealing with trade-offs. He outperforms everyone in the palace in this matter, but due to his excessive appeal to numbers, he needs someone to tell him when he's going too far in maths. 

Due to the nature of the disease that will eventually hit Zhejiang, he will have also a huge amount of pressure over his shoulders, as, from what we know in practice, epidemics are also really good at busting businesses. Of all of them, he's the most emotionally decoupled and does not have a particular love attachment to anyone, but is always 'open'. He's not that fiery, but if pushed hard enough, he pleases even Feng Long.

5 - 丁弃 - Ding Qi - Emperor of Huangshan (State-level subdivision of Anhui)

Ding Qi came from "Cinderella Chef (萌妻食神)", his role will be mainly focused on helping Zhejiang find the origin of the disease and keeping it off. 

Although not really an emperor in his own right, he could be considered a king that controls a state-level region inside Anhui, which rule is granted by the emperor of the whole Anhui, to who Ding Qi is supposedly loyal. He can be extremely fiery when in love, and has a funny and energetic mood but is also very competent and wise, sometimes making decisions against common sense. Ding Qi has already met Yu Lexuan in the past and has some love attachments with him, but will eventually find another person that, although will not "replace" Yu Lexuan entirely, will be a "good fit" for him. 

6 - 白崇业 - Bai Chongye - Emperor of Anhui

Bai Chongye also comes from "Cinderella Chef(萌妻食神)", and will be the emperor of Anhui. His cold heart and aggressive behaviour will also play a significant role in the story. Anhui is the wealthiest of the empires and has the strongest army. 

Bai Chongye has a psychotic way of dealing with people, sometimes killing them for no reason. He also has no regard for anyone under his command, including his people and officials, but he is also very susceptible to political biases when dealing with other empires. He loses control very easily and does not have love attachments to anyone, and is never expected to have, he only aims for more power. His thinking can change abruptly and without warning, sometimes leading him to make actually good decisions. 

 7 - 毓埥 - Yu Qing - Prince of Anhui

Yu Qing is another character from "Men with sword(刺客列传)". He is the prince of Anhui and will perform the work of an envoy. He is just as reckless as Bai Chongye, especially when dealing with the kings from the subdivisions of Anhui, whom he likes to sometimes humiliate as he has a free pass granted by the emperor to do it. Although not admitting, he likes Bai Chongye but knows any serious relationship with the emperor is nearly impossible.

8 - 张小凡 - Zhang Xiaofan - Huangshan's physician 

Zhang Xiaofan is the youthful protagonist of "The Legend of Chusen(青云志)" drama. His practical understanding of diseases will improve Ding Qi's epidemic control in his city, well, if he can do it. 

He is very loyal and respects Ding Qi a lot. Eventually, Ding Qi will fall in love with him, and he will have to change to satisfy the needs of the emperor. 

Zhang Xiaofan might appear to be sad or depressed, but this is the result of the workload he needs to handle. When freed from such stressors, he is actually cute and loving, even bold when teased. 

9 - 夏淳于 - Xia Chunyu - Jiangsu Emperor

Xia Chunyu is another character and actual protagonist of "Cinderella Chef(萌妻食神)", he is the brother of Bai Chongye. He is known as "the most handsome emperor in the world", and follows the same core principles as Feng Long regarding the governance of his empire. There are old friends and have studied together for a while. In the past, Bai Chongye forced him to kill one of his best friends by mistake, which he did, falling into a prolonged period of depression. Bai Chongye never apologized, and since then, both only communicated through their princes and other high-level officials. He has some love affairs with Feng Long and, but he also has an unbreakable and even more intense love relationship with his Prince, Ouyang Ziyu, and makes it clear every night. 

10 - 欧阳子虞 - Ouyang Ziyu - Jiangsu prince

Ouyang Ziyu is from "Nichang ( 小女霓裳 ). You may have noticed that he looks alike Yu Lexuan, that's because both characters are played by the same actor (Bi Wenjun). 

Ouyang also behaves like Yu Lexuan, the significant difference is that he does not have the same influence over the emperor as Yu Lexuan does. He is the only one Xia Chunyu truly loves and makes it clear at every opportunity, but Xia Chunyu is more independent than Feng Long when decision-making is concerned. 

Given the smaller size of Jiangsu's imperial staff, he is a "multi-minister" and handles almost every single official affair. When there are many tasks to be accomplished simultaneously and stress builds up, the emperor personally caresses him until the stress is relieved. Xia Chunyu also gives him some rewards at night.    

11 - 孟章 - Meng Zhang - Jiangxi Emperor

Meng Zhang comes also from "Men with sword(刺客列传)" and was very close to Zhong Kunyi in the BL series. He is the youngest emperor, and his empire is the largest in area, but most of it is empty, the majority of the population lives in the capital, Nanchang, and other smaller cities around, so their living standards are pretty high and cosmopolitan. Jiangxi fought a battle against Zhejiang due to a fake territorial claim and Jiangxi lost it after the emperor withdrew the claim. 

The claim didn't come from the emperor himself, but he has been tricked to think Feng Long was trying to overthrow him, when in fact some people inside Jiangxi purposely invaded Zhejiang, which was forced to declare war. Given the poor communication in the empire due to the long distances and also the young age of the emperor, he apologized and the ties with Zhejiang have been normalized again in about a week. He has a deep admiration for Feng Long.

12 - 谢允 - Xie Yun - Jiangxi Prince

Xie Yun is from "The legend of Fei(有翡), he will assess Meng Zhang in all matters concerning Jiangxi. He hates Feng Long and does not like Yu Lexuan due to the battle he lost, even though he was not injured and was treated fairly. 

He has some degree of influence over the emperor but usually makes good decisions. His love relationship with Meng Zhang is very vague, as he simply wants to be alone and Meng Zhang is not super active on this matter. He is not close to the emperor most of the time, but keeps his loyalty and has a strong sense of responsibility. Like Ouyang Ziyu, he is a "multi-minister", but he has very little work to do as everything in Jiangxi tends to happen in Nanchang and Meng Zhang likes to solve matters himself.   

13 - 宇軒 - Yu Xuan - Zhejiang Chemist

Unlike the other characters above, Yu Xuan is one that I created from scratch about two years ago. His main purpose is to help Zhejiang transition from herb-based to mineral-based medicines. 

Despite him and Yu Lexuan having names that sound similar, Yu Xuan came almost a year before I met Yu Lexuan, and they have no connection on that, but both behave in pretty much the same manner.

Yu Xuan is a gentle and caring person and becomes hot when teased, but he lacks the ability Yu Lexuan has to keep things going. Yu Xuan is also very lax regarding relationships, and still living alone, even being handsome and knowledgeable. He only cares about refining his knowledge of minerals, ditching relationships that would keep him distracted. After a proper warm-up, his level would be more than enough to make Feng Long sweat.

*Just as I side note: I am a straight guy in my late 20's( maybe some sentences I write will not be 100% "LGBT-like"), I've had a couple of girlfriends along the way, and this is my first 100% BL fanfic. I don't know so much about the gay business, but the whole point of this is not about glorifying anything in the LGBT culture like they intend to do in novels like MDZS, I'll sharply disagree with you if you happen to do it. All, or almost all characters here are actually straight in their original novels. Still, here they just "happen" to love each other, because, well, that's how you are supposed to treat anyone regardless of their sexual preference, they fall in love with each other, sometimes for more than one, and that's it, no need to say "I'm proud for being gay" or whatever. As a liberal( in the British manner, not the American), I'm pro-choice and I hate when people try to impose their preferences, you want to do it, you can, if it does not threaten anyone or cause their freedom to be stripped or damaged, that's fine(libertarians disagree, but they are inconsistent). If you happen to include yourself in those groups, great, but think again, you don't need to be(badly) represented by them, you can stand for yourself and live normally. You don't have to share the same values or fight for the same ideas, because all the work has already been done by legislators decades ago, at least in the developed world. All love is love, and you don't have to be "proud" of anything, as no straight guy like me is proud of it.
